Parents,

The school year is going great and the children are all adjusting well to their new routine.  All of our classes are discovering new and exciting things.  Ms. Lauren’s class has just completed a project about trains.  They even built their own long linked locomotive out of shoe boxes and toilet paper rolls.  The Pre-K classes are participating in a project about animals.  We have learned about elephants, lions, whales, and the continents where they are from.  The children will vote to see which animal they get to study next.  We measured out how long a whale is and how tall an elephant is then measured ourselves next to them.  The children were excited to discover that a whale is almost as long as our school.   The Pre-K classes are using a great hands on method to learn our letters,” Handwriting Without Tears.”  The children build their letters using short and long lines as well as small and big curves.  This is a wonderful program that helps children work on the developmental skills needed to begin to recognize and write their letters.  Some of the ways it helps is by working on fine motor coordination as well as learning top and bottom and beginning left to right eye tracking skills.  It is very important not to teach reading or writing before your child has reached these important developmental milestones.  You might have heard your child singing the songs, “Where do you start your letters?”  or “Give me your right hand”, these are some of the songs from this program.  We have had a great time shaking hands with our right hands, driving race cars on our letters, and building our letters with blocks.  We believe everything that we learn should be fun!  The animal that the children voted on learning next is the horse.  If you have any books, pictures, or items that will help with our research on horses please bring it this week.  The children have been using our recycled items to make zoos and homes for our animals.  Thanks for all of the recycled items.  We have stopped collecting items for now.  We will begin again in November.

The toddler classes are having a great time with many sensory activities such as dancing on bubble wrap, tactile cards, and using many different types of materials for art projects.  You will always find them singing, dancing, or enjoying a good book.  Ms. Celeste’s class has been learning about colors.  They used colored marshmallows to learn their colors.  This was a fun and yummy way to experience colors!  Ms. Amy’s class has been having fun building with blocks and creating some awesome art!  Take a look at their wall of art in their classroom.

The Pre- K class is taking a field trip to the Pumpkin Patch on October 23rd.  We will leave the building at 10:30.  Please bring a sack lunch for your child.  They also have a concession stand there if you would like to purchase food for your child when we get there.  The price of admission is $5.00 for children as well as adults.  Everyone will get to take a large pumpkin home.  If you would like to volunteer to go please let your child’s teacher know.

Fall Break is October 16th -17th.  Please pay your tuition prior to Fall Break.

Thanks for bringing great show n shares this year!  We appreciate your help with our effort to keep commercialized toys from the school.  We are continuing to add to our toys by adding more open ended items.

We will make cinnamon applesauce October 9th.  Please bring two apples for cooking as well as art activities.  The Pre-K classes will be cooking on Fridays in October.  We will make apple pie, apple pizza, and other goodies.

Please remember to keep the drive through clear of parked cars.  The Pre-K and three year old class teachers  will bring your child to your car if you would like to use the drive through.  It is very important for the safety of our children to keep the carpool line single file.  Thanks for your cooperation.

Remember to check out our website to view what your child is doing at school.  The website is www.christianlifeschoolokc.com.  There are wonderful pictures as well as videos.

If you should ever need to contact me you can reach me by email@ christianlifecoop@hotmail.com or by phone 794-0808.  It is a privilege for us at the school to be a part of you and your child’s life.  Please let us know if you school ever have any questions or concerns.

Warmly,
