The Pre-K students are beginning their castle project. The children have taken a vote to see what they would like to study next and they decided on castles. We will also learn about royalty, dragons, and knights. This week the children will begin building their cardboard castle and drawbridge. There are several items that we will need to enrich our learning experience. If you have any of these items you would like to donate or loan we would appreciate it. Cardboard tubes ( any size), dress up clothes (crowns, knight costumes, wands, or princess dresses), action figures (dragons, knights, horses, etc.), plastic jewelry, pictures of castles, cardboard, and aluminum foil. If you have any books on this subject feel free to bring them to share with the class. At the end of our study we will have a medieval feast to celebrate all that we have learned. You will receive a letter with more details as our unit draws to a close. There are many wonderful books that you can check out at the library on this subject. Some I would recommend are: Jane and the Dragon, Get Well Good Knight, The King who Rained, The King of Capri, The Emperor's New Clothes, The Frog Prince, Custard the Dragon and the Wicked Knight, Princess Penelope, The Princess Knight, and How to Train Your Dragon. The movie, "How to Train Your Dragon" is coming out in March. I will read the reviews and see if it might be a good choice for a class field trip. Some of the letters your child will learn during this project are: C, D, K, Q, and P.
This is Chase Chaddock's special week! Please dress your child in green on Thursday Jan. 14th in honor of Chase's favorite color, verde. We will enjoy ice cream sundaes Thursday since chocolate ice cream is Chase's favorite treat. Please have your child bring show n shares that begin with the letter C. Please remember not to bring commercial toys for show n share. Our hope is to encourage the children's creativity and self expression by bringing items that they can talk about that have special meaning.
We now have mailboxes for each Pre-K child. They will be a wonderful addition to our center room. The children will be able to write letters to their friends. Each week we will select a child to be the postman and deliver the letters. This is a fun way for us to promote literacy in our classroom. If you would like to send a letter to your child just drop it off at the beginning of the day.
If you have any questions about anything we are doing in the classroom you can contact me by email, www.christianlifecoop@hotmail or by phone 794-0808. It is my goal to partner with you in your child's education.
Warmly,
Christy Prescott
