Discovery Camp Class Descriptions

⋆     The Science of Extreme Sports:  We will discover the science behind extreme sports (skateboarding, BMX, surfing, wakeboarding, snowboarding, and more).  We will examine the science of gravity, velocity, lift, drag, and thrust.

⋆     Throw Down:  Are you ready for a throw down?  The morning class will challenge the afternoon class to a cooking throw down.  Each class will create similar dishes with a key ingredient that will be judged to determine who the winner of our throw down is. 

⋆     X Marks the Spot:  Do you think you’re as clever as Nicholas Cage in National Treasure?  If so, join us as we set off for the ultimate treasure hunt.  We will solve riddles and puzzles and follow coded directions to find the hidden treasure. 

⋆     Extreme Art for the Extreme Artist:  This summer we are going extreme with our art!  We will spray paint, splatter, throw paint filled balloons, and use extreme methods to create art. 

⋆     The Extreme Sport of Cup Stacking:  This may be the most “extreme” of all the extreme sports.  Are you ready for the challenge?  We will learn the basics of cup stacking and then compete for the Discovery Camp title of The Most Extreme Cup Stacker!

⋆     Build a Board:  Create your own skateboard or surfboard deck.  First you will come up with your design, then you will build it, and finally you will paint your original design on it for a one of a kind board. 

⋆     Big Air:  Pushing the Limits:  Think math is boring?  Give this class a try and you might change your mind.  We will learn about angles (180 and 360) while we create ramps and half and quarter pipes.  You will also learn concepts that allow the extreme athletes to get Big Air!

⋆     The Ultimate Fishing Challenge:  Who can catch the most, biggest or smallest fish?  Can you cast the furthest or bait your hook the fastest?  If you feel up to the challenge then this is the fishing class for you. 

⋆     Can We Build It?  Yes We Can.:  Think Bob the Builder can build anything.  We’ll so can you!  In this class we will be building ramps, half-pipes and quarter-pipes.  

⋆     Graphic Art Design:  Do you love the cool designs on skateboards, surfboards, snowboards, and wakeboards?  Well here’s your chance to be the artist and design some awesome graphics of your own. 

⋆     POP Art! Extreme Balloon Art:  We’re not talking about Andy Warhol but about Bozo!  This class will create amazing art using only balloons and your hot air.

⋆     Design University:  Nothing to wear?  Well here’s your chance to come up with your own t-shirt design.  If your design is voted the coolest we will create your design for the class to wear.  

⋆     Catch a Wave:  Learn the science behind kite boarding, surfboarding, and wakeboarding.  In this class you will create your own board and then race yours across the pond to see if the science behind it really works.

⋆     Stomp the Class:  Do your parents tell you to beat it?  If so, come see what the noise is all about!  In this class you will learn about tone, rhythm, and beat!

⋆     Stomp the Musical:  This year’s musical will be the most extreme yet.  Stomp is a high energy, percussive, symphony coupled with dance, played entirely on unconventional instruments, such as garbage can lids, buckets, brooms, and sticks.  Can you feel the beat?
